Thomas M. Magill ---

As a program and project management executive for major corporations, Tom Magill has created, developed, and deployed numerous innovative systems and processes throughout his career. These solutions have significantly enhanced capabilities, dramatically lowered costs, eliminated errors, and noticeably improved quality.

Mr. Magill applies his expertise in large-scale project management, process reengineering, and technology deployment to promote, plan, develop, and rollout leading-edge solutions on schedule and within budget. For much of his career, Tom has focused on the supply chain management (SCM) function, where he led efforts in transportation planning and management, inventory control, order processing, warehouse management systems, manufacturing resource planning (MRP) and more. More recently, he expanded his experience to include point of sale (POS), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), and application management.

Tom Magill thrives in large complicated companies, having worked for Baxter Healthcare ($10B annual revenue), McKesson Drug ($103B), and more recently at Kaiser Permanente ($36B). He has provided leadership to large cross-functional teams obtaining consensus by establishing clear and measurable objectives and engaging people in passionate, detailed discussions that challenge ideas and people. Over the years, Tom has produced breakthrough solutions such as the COMPASS system for Baxter (commingling of saleable and unsalable product in a single warehouse) … Acumax WMS for McKesson (wrist-mounted computing to vastly improve accuracy and productivity) … and a Member Self Service Kiosk (for patient check-in and payments) to minimize check-in lines at Kaiser Permanente.

Recognized as an early adopter of bar coding, Tom participated in establishing the first ever Health Industry Bar Code standards (HIBC). Additionally, he was recognized as a leader in mobile computing by utilizing the first wireless wrist-mounted computers (Symbol Gladiator devices), and for developing the first commercial application based on the Palm Pilot (ruggedized version), pictures of both can be seen on his website.

While Tom maintains a focus on the big picture he is also a highly tactical executer who gets the job done. People see him as an arranger, a maximizer, a strategic thinker, and always very responsible. Tom’s management style is open and delegative, yet hands on when he needs to be. He is analytical, metric driven, and detail-oriented. Under intense pressure Tom remains calm earning him the moniker “Calm Tom” by two past managers.

Mr. Magill earned his BS in Packaging Technology and his MBA in Marketing & Logistics from Michigan State University. He is a 25-year member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, served as President of the Chicago Roundtable, and on the Board of Directors as Roundtable Chairperson.
